THE ART OF BRUNCHING
First and foremost, you need to know what
Dharma means to truly appreciate this café. As defined on the website,
"Dharma is an ancient Sanskrit word. There are literally thousands
of definitions of Dharma, owing in part to the subjective nature of
translations, context, usage, and the somewhat ethereal nature of the
study of Buddhism. Dharma for us could be best defined as the spiritual
work that you do in your life to return to yourself, your center. Using
this model, you could say the Dharma of the sun is to produce light and
heat, the Dharma of a dog is to lay about and sleep.” The Dharma of
these owners is to be of service to others - to feed their friends.

The story behind the Dharma Café can be found
on their website – it is much too much to reprint here, but it will
give you a very good idea of where the owners are coming from and why
their establishment is so popular. They
do serve lunch and dinner, and the prices can be very reasonable (from a
$2 bowl of soup for lunch to a $16 poached salmon for dinner). But we
are focusing on brunch. You also need to know that the Dharma café only
seats 28 inside and 12 on the patio. This is not a huge place and
reservations are highly recommended. The cost for brunch is $15 per
person and is all you can eat buffet style, with one mimosa or glass of
champagne included. The goal here is not to get sloppy drunk, but to
enjoy your day to the fullest.
Menu items can vary, but usually include
Homemade Cinnamon Rolls (the best in town), Homemade Muffins, Homemade
Biscuits, Fresh Waffles (ask about the antique waffle iron), Fresh
Pancakes (banana pecan or blueberry), Sausage, Bacon, Sausage Gravy,
Home Fries, Eggs Cooked to Order (any type of omelet or egg), Fresh
Pasta Dishes (all of the fettuccini is homemade, fresh and delicious),
Fresh Vegetable Dishes, Various Entrees, Homemade Soup, Homemade Pizza,
Assorted Desserts and Fresh Brewed Coffee.
The atmosphere here is quaint and friendly –
the owners will learn your name if you are a regular – they actually
care how your day s going and will strive to make it better if they can.
The Dharma Cafe is our first choice to get away from the craziness that
can be Sunday Brunch in this town (if you just aren’t feeling up to it
this weekend). Call up a couple of your closest friends and get ready
for a breath of fresh air and some killer homemade food.
